4º Arts LIGHT AND VOLUME Shadows- light

Hello everybody!
I hope you are all right!

Since I imagine everybody has a pencil at home, and probably an egg too, we are going to observe and analyze how the light works in nature, and how we can represent it with a humble pencil.

Basically, we are going to do what it is explained in the video. We are going to observe how different kinds of lights iluminate an object ( an egg).
Them, we are going to use a soft-lead pencil to draw all the shadows, and lights.

Hopefully, when  the drawing is done  you will have a 3D drawing! Actually, the light is the most important visual element in an image to define the volume of the objects.

So, here are the steps:

Take an egg and place it on a white sheet of paper. We are going to prepare two kind of lightings sets:
  • Diffused light. You are going to place your "egg on the paper", mini still- life, next to a window. Them, observe, and draw.
  • Hard-straight direct light. You need to use a lamp to iluminate the egg on the paper. Place the lamp really close so you can get this kind of lighting. Them, observe, and draw.

Is there any difference between the first option and the second? So... it has to be seen in your drawing!

Which would be each one?

You can do the two drawings in the same drawing paper. Don´t forget to work all the types of shadows, including the cast shadow on the paper.

In this image you can learn the english vocabulary to use for each kind of shadow:

If you find this job a little tricky, here is a tip for you.
You might use your movil phone to take a photo of the still life ( el mini bodegón formado por papel y huevo. Still-life es bodegón in english)
This can help you to observe the reality you are seeing. Compare the photo, and what you see. Try to notice all the different parts of the image and all the different shadows, in the photo, and in reality.

See the slight diferences.

See the subtle changes in nature!!!

Train your perception and your observation skills

This is about it.

GREETINGS!!!
